A Study On The Ability Of The Sixth Semester Students Of English Study Program Fkip Universitas Riau In Analyzing Short Story

As one of the kinds of literary genres, short story can be applied in language classroom. The use of literarture in the form of short story can build the enjoyable and attractive for the students. The aims of this study was to find out the ability of the sixth semester students of English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau in analyzing short story. There were 33 students of 6A English Study Program Universitas Riau as sample which were chosen by using Cluster Random Sampling. This study used descriptive research that focused on quantitative approach. The writer used a test of semi-essay then distributed by Google Form to collect the students’ answers. The writer selected 3 stories by Ruskin Bond (2016) and asked the students to analyze the elements of short story such as setting, character, point of view, plot, and theme. This study used 3 raters to assess the correcntness of students’ answers and analyzed using the rubric score adapted by Crafty Krystal (2015).The findings revelead that the ability of the students’ analyzing short story were Average to Good Level in score 61.
