ABSTRACT
Computer network security is very important to be protected from all activities that have bad intentions such as going to infiltrate and attack security systems in a computer network. The absence of a security system to prevent possible attackers from causing the need for a system to monitor or supervise and also prevent intrusions on the computer network of SMA Negeri 1 Simpang Kanan. Snort is a tool used in Host Based IDS as an alert, so Snort is the choice to secure the network in case studies. In this research, a computer network security system has been successfully built using snort with local rules and portsentry on Ubuntu to make efforts to detect any data traffic and prevent an attack. The results of attack testing in this study indicate that the Intrusion Detection System with the Host Based technique on a computer on a local network can work well, this can be seen with the accurate detection of an attack with the snort rules system, it can also block attacks from portsentry that have been installed. configured at the time of testing.
