Penggunaan Ekstrak Asam Asetat Mahkota Rosella (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) Sebagai Indikator Alami Pendeteksi Boraks
Borax is a chemical substance that is stable at room temperature, odorless, in the form od white crystals and is not flammable. Borax can be abused in the home industry as a food preservative. The purpose of this research was to determine the color change of the acetic acid extract of rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa) when reacted with borax and other food additives. The design of this research is experimental laboratory. Extract was obtained using maceration method 50 gr of dried rosella in 100 ml of acetic acid. The extract then is reacted with borax and other food additives for 15’ and 30’. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively by visually assessing the color changes formed and changes in the character of the absorbance pattern using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the acetic acid extract of rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa) changed color from purplish red to dark red when reacted with 1 gr/dl of borax at 30’ observation time which could be distinguished from the control solution and comparison solution visually and through the absorbance pattern of the UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Borax with 1 gr/dl concentration could be distinguished from other lower concentration visually and through the absorbance pattern of the UV-Vis spectrophotometer, but borax with concentration lower than 0,25 gr/dl could not be distinguished from each other.
