The Correlation Between Grammar Mastery And Argumentative Essay Writing Ability Of The Seventh Semester Students Of English Study Program Of Fkip Universitas Riau
This research aims to find the correlation between grammar mastery and argumentative essay writing ability of the seventh semester students of English Study Program of FKIP Universitas Riau. This research is a correlational study. The sample of this research is one of three classes of the seventh semester students of English Study Program that were chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. The number of sample is 36 students. Data collection techniques in this research were grammar mastery test and argumentative essay writing test. SPSS program was used in analysing the data. The results show that the grammar mastery level is categorized into “fair” level and their argumentative essay wtiting ability is in “good” level. The result of calculating correlation between grammar mastery and argumentative essay writing ability was r = 0.668. In conclusion, there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and argumentative essay writing ability of the seventh semester students of English Study Program of FKIP Universitas Riau.
