Kajian Dampak Aktivitas Antropogenik Terhadap Kualitas Perairan Pantai Pulau Rupat

The rapid economic growth in coastal areas which is characterized by an
explosion in population growth makes the need for more space. The coastal area
is an area that is widely used by the community to carry out life activities such as
aquaculture, fisheries, transportation, tourism and other activities. Rupat Island
is one of the outermost small islands (PPKT) located in Riau Province which is
also included in a certain national strategic area (KSNT) through Presidential
Decree No. 6 of 2017 concerning the designation of small outer islands. The large
potential of coastal and marine resources on Rupat Island is threatened due to
anthropogenic activities such as the opening of oil palm plantations, shrimp pond
activities, transportation, ports, and tourism activities and community settlements
which allow pollution to the aquatic environment.
This study aims to analyze the values of physical, chemical and biological
parameters, analyze the differences in water quality and pollution levels between
stations, analyze the relationship between nitrate, phosphate and organic matter
and the abundance of phytoplankton and analyze the distribution of nitrate,
phosphate, organic matter and the abundance of phytoplankton in the waters.
Rupat Island Beach. The research location is in the Rupat Island Waters area,
which is in Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. There are 6 stations. 3 stations are
located around the Rupat Strait area and 3 stations are located in the Malacca
Strait area. In one station there are 3 sampling points, the distance between
sampling points is 100 meters. Measurements of several physical, chemical and
biological parameters that affect the coastal area of Rupat Island were carried
out in-situ and ex-situ. Data collection was carried out by purposive sampling
which is expected to represent the research location. Water quality parameters
taken are physical, chemical and biological parameters. Physical parameters
consist of brightness, turbidity, temperature, TSS (total suspended solid) and
sediment fraction. Chemical parameters consist of acidity (pH), DO (dissolved
oxygen) salinity, BOD. The biological parameters analyzed were species and
abundance.
Based on the research results, it was found that the physical parameters of
the waters of the Rupat Island area obtained four sediment fractions, namely silt,
sandy silt, muddy sand, and sand. TSS (Total Suspended Solid) concentration
ranged from 57.00 - 95.00 mg/l, TDS (Total Dissolved Solid) concentration
ranged from 1.098 – 1.949 mg/l, turbidity ranged from 3.16 - 16.78 NTU,
brightness ranged from 0.35 - 1.75 m, depth ranges from 2.10 - 15.25 m, current
speed ranges from 0.0286 - 0.0625 m/dtk, temperature ranges from 25.00 - 31.00
oC and salinity ranges from 13.00 - 29, 00‰. The chemical parameters of the
Rupat Island waters obtained the degree of acidity (pH) of the waters ranging
from 6.40 - 8.00, DO (Dissolved Oxygen) ranging from 5.712 - 7.140 mg/l, BOD
(Biological Oxygen Demand) ranging from 0.816 - 2.448 mg/l, material organic
water ranged from 27.555 - 35.234 mg/l, nitrate concentration ranged from

0.0854 - 0.1792 mg/l and phosphate concentration ranged from 0.1571 - 0.1659
mg/l.
Furthermore, the biological parameters of the waters of the Rupat Island
area obtained 3 classes of phytoplankton namely Bacillariophyceae,
Cyanophyceae and Conjugatophyceae consisting of 14 types of phytoplankton
species namely Nitzchia sp, Synedra ulna, Itshmia obliquata, Rhabdonema
adriaticum, Grammatophora sp, Guinardia striata, Rhizosolenia alata, Cyclotella
atomus, Oscillatoria sp, Lygbya sp, Tolypothrix sp, Pleurotaenium sp, Closterium
sp and Gonatozygon sp. The lowest abundance of phytoplankton was found in the
Station II area with an average abundance value of around 416.67 cells/l, while
the highest average abundance was in the Station V area with an average value of
993.05 cells/l. The water pollution index is based on the Decree of the Minister of
Environment number 115 of 2003 with seawater quality standards in the Decree
of the Minister of State for the Environment No. 51 of 2004 for marine biota, the
index value ranged from 7.77 to 8.99, meaning that the waters of Rupat Island are
categorized as moderately polluted.
Determination of differences in water quality was carried out by cluster
analysis using the Hierarchical method using a scale of 20, obtained 2 clusters
based on similarities in water characteristics. Cluster I is an area in the Rupat
Strait. Cluster II is an area in the Malacca Strait. Significant differences in water
quality occur in the parameters of water turbidity and TSS (Total Suspended
Solid) concentrations. Furthermore, the relationship between the content of
nitrate phosphate and organic matter with the abundance of phytoplankton in the
Rupat Island area is very weak where the determination values (R2) for nitrate
and phosphate on the abundance of phytoplankton are 8%, 10.5% and 3.3%.
