Penentuan Nilai Suseptibilitas Magnetik Dan Komposisi Serta Ukuran Partikel Oksida Besi Pasir Alam Sungai Rokan Dipreparasi Ball Milling
ABSTRACT
The value of magnetic susceptibility and variation of composition and size of iron oxide particles from natural sand collected from Rokan River Riau Province have been investigated by ball milling. Before going through the ball milling process, the magnetic and non-magnetic particles of the sample were separated using an Iron Sand Separator and a Neodynium Iron Boron (NdFeb) magnet. A sample of 120 grams was taken and prepared with the first stage of ball milling for 80 hours, namely BM 1. Then, product of BM 1 in the second stage of ball milling with additional time of 30 hours, 40 hours and 50 hours and each of these products products named BM 2A, BM 2B and BM 2C. The milled balls used were combined iron balls with a diameter of 2 cm as many as 16 pieces, 1.5 cm as many as 32 pieces and 0.7 cm as many as 64 pieces. The results showed that the value of magnetic susceptibility increased with increasing ball milling rotation time, namely from 11361.6 in BM 1, to 12398.7 in BM 2A, 13383.4 in BM 2B; and 14541.2 on BM 2C. Likewise with the test results using X-Ray Fluorescence which showed that the magnetic element, namely Fe, experienced an increase in the proportion from 38.113% for BM 1 to 40.133% for BM 2A, 41.629% for BM 2B and 42.478% for BM 2C. The test results using a Scanning Electron Microscope showed that the average sample particle size decreased from 685 nm to 656 nm; 630 nm; and 630 nm as the milling time increases.
