Optimasi Waktu Aktivasi Secara Kimia Menggunakan Asam Fosfat Terhadap Karakteristik Arang Aktif Cangkang Buah Pangi (Pangium Edule Reinw.)
ABSTRACT
This study aims to obtain the activation time using phosphoric acid (H3PO4) activated charcoal from Pangi fruit shells (Pangium edule Reinw.). This research was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and three replications to obtain 15 experimental units. The treatments in this study were P1 (20 hours of immersion), P2 (21 hours of immersion), P3 (22 hours of immersion), P4 (23 hours of immersion), and P5 (24 hours of immersion). The parameters tested in this study were moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content, bound carbon content and iodine absorption. The data obtained was analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA). If the calculated F is greater than or equal to the table F, then the analysis will be continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% level. The results of the analysis of variance showed that variations in activation time using H3PO4 activated charcoal of pangi fruit shells (Pangium edule Reinw.) had a significant effect on moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content, bound carbon content, and iodine absorption. The best treatment in this study was the P3 treatment which had characteristics of 5.47% moisture content, 1.78% ash content, 13.08% volatile matter content, 79.65% bound carbon, and 765.85 mg/g iodine absorption capacity.
Keywords: Activated charcoal, pangi (Pangium edule Reinw.) and phosphoric acid.
