ABSTRACT
Clothing is one of the most basic human needs that cannot be ignored. Clothes can be washed and dried several times. However, drying clothes is not possible during the rainy season and after sunset. This research aims to create a new clothes dryer made from coconut shell waste using a digital system and a heat source from burning biomass which can be used at night or when it rains. Temperature, humidity, moisture content, and heat in the dryer are the characteristics that are measured. Biomass energy from coconut shells is used as fuel in this method. The results showed that the time spent during the drying process with various variations of coconut shell mass was 120 minutes for a mass of 2000 grams, 200 minutes for a mass of 4000 grams with each time interval of 10 minutes for each observation. The results for a mass of 2000 grams of coconut shell reached the highest temperature value with an average source temperature of 61.32 °C, an average temperature in the drying chamber of 54.53 °C with a minimum humidity of 19.5%, and an average moisture content of 13 .29% and the maximum heat loss is 6939.1 J/s, while the results for a mass of 4000 grams of coconut shell achieve the highest temperature value with an average source temperature of 100.46°C, an average temperature in the drying chamber of 94.62° C with a minimum humidity of 21.1%, and an average moisture content of 13.70% and maximum heat loss is 20713.7 J/s. The results of temperature measurement data in the drying chamber and humidity can be seen through the serial monitor on the Arduino software.
