The Correlation Between Speed Reading And Reading Comprehension On Narrative Text Of The First Year Students SMAN 14 Pekanbaru

The objective of the research is to find a correlation between reading speed and reading comprehension on narrative text of the first year students SMAN 14 Pekanbaru.This quantitative research used a speed reading and reading comprehension tests. The data were collected using timed Google Form. The total number of samples (N) is 35. The mean score of speed reading (Variable X) is 270, and the mean score of reading comprehension (Variable Y) is 86.4. based on the level, the students’ speed reading level is Average, and the reading comprehension is Excellent. The correlation coefficient was calculated between two variables using the Pearson Product Moment formula. The outcome of this analysis is Sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.00, and it is lower than 0.05. It can be inferred that a correlation exists between the speed at which students read and their level of reading comprehension. With the value of Pearson correlation 0.893, the correlation is at a very high level.
