An Analysis Of Students’ Ability In Comprehending Reading Texts At SMAN 2 Bungaraya Siak
This research is aimed to analyze the students’ ability in comprehending reading texts at SMAN 2 Bungaraya Siak. Using cluster random sampling, 25 students employed in this study were taken as the sample of this research. This study employed descriptive quantitative research. The quantitative data collected from a test. The test consisted of 40 questions. The test consists of three types of reading text (Descriptive, Recount, and Narrative texts), with eight components of reading they are Determining the Main Idea, Finding the Meaning of Vocabulary, Making Inferences, Finding Specific Information, Identifying References, Identifying Text Features, Finding Social Function, and Identifying Generic Structures. The findings of this study revealed that the student’s ability in reading comprehension students of SMAN 2 Bungaraya Siak reading texts is categorized into good levels. The most lowest component of the reading texts is finding specific information from the Recount text and its score is 66. Meanwhile, the easiest components of reading comprehension are identifying references from Recount text and identifying generic structure from Narrative text with a mean score of 76. Then the other components such as determining the main idea (Descriptive text) 71, finding the meaning of vocabulary (Descriptive text) 72,52, making inferences (Descriptive text) 73, identifying text features (Recount text) 74, and finding social function (Narrative text) 73.
