Genre Analysis On Reading Passages Of English Textbook Senior High School
A genre of reading text includes the social function, text structure, and features. In this study, the author of the textbook "Talk Active" in English examined the genre of the reading passages. The goals of this study were to identify the genres that are present in the English textbook "Talk Active," as well as its social functions, generic structures, and linguistic characteristics. They also sought to determine whether the genres of the text were present in Talk Active English. Descriptive qualitative research was used in this study. Document analysis was the study methodology used. The researcher employed the following techniques for data analysis: creating categories, data reduction, data display, interpretation, and conclusion.
The findings of this study revealed that there are four different types of reading texts in the senior high school English textbook "Talk Active" for the eleventh grade. These texts included descriptions, analytical exposition, reports, and explanations. The four genres were represented by sixteen texts. The texts were divided into four for the analytical exposition text, three for the descriptive text, six for the report text, and three for the explanation text.
