Identifying Translation Methods Used By English Study Program Students Of Universitas Riau

This descriptive research was aimed to find out what kind of translation method used by English Study Program Students of Universitas Riau in translating activity. The population of this research was sixth semester students of English Study Program Universitas Riau. There are two instruments of this research, the first test is about translating the English text into Indonesia and the second test is interview. The data analyzed using types of translation methods by Peter Newmark. The findings of this research showed that there are some methods that used by the students. They are Free Translation, Communicative Translation, and Word-for-word Translation.
