Analisis Keragaman Karakter Pertumbuhan Dan Hasil Tanaman Kacang Hijau (Vigna Radiata L.) Generasi M8 Hasil Mutasi Sinar Gamma
Green beans (Vigna radiata L.) is a plant that is widely cultivated in
Kampar Regency, Riau. Mung bean productivity in Indonesia and the Kampar
district tends to be stable every year, but mung bean farmers in the Kampar district
generally cultivate green beans from the local Kampar strain which have low yield,
have trichomes and pods that break easily. One of the efforts that can be made to
improve the quality and production of mung beans is to carry out plant breeding
using gamma ray mutation induction. The existence of gamma ray mutation
induction is expected to increase the genetic variation of green beans so as to
improve unwanted traits. Kampar strain green beans were irradiated at LD50 dose
to obtain M1 plants. Since 2013, the results of gamma radiation have been
phenotypically evaluated by a research team in the field of plant genetics, the
Department of Biology, University of Riau. The evaluation showed an increase in
the number of pods per plant and the appearance of ripe pods in unison compared
to the control plants.
The aim of this study was to analyze the diversity of growth and yield
characters of M8 generation green bean (Vigna radiata L) resulting from gammaray
mutations. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD), with 8
replications. Treatment consists of M8-18-3-1-18-33 (19), M8-18-3-1-18-33 (18),
M8-18-3-1-18-33 (17), M8- 18-3-1-18-33 (16) so that there were 40 experimental
units, with each experimental unit consisting of 36 green bean seeds and all plant
populations being sampled so that there were 1440 plants. Observational data
obtained were analyzed using variance (Anova) then proceed with Homogeneity Of
Variance (HOV) analysis to determine whether the diversity of each population is
the same as one another.
Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be
concluded that there is uniformity in values for the characters of plant height,
flowering age, harvesting age, number of seeds per plant, seed weight per plant,
and weight of 100 seeds per plant in M8 progeny green bean plants, which do not
require strict selection of these characters. The characters of growth vigor, the
number of branches on the main stem, the uniformity of maturity, the number of
pods per plant, the length of the pods, and the number of seeds per pod showed
various values. The M8-18-3-1-18-33 (19) progeny plants excelled in the number
of branches on the main stem, and the number of pods per plant, and the M8-18-3-
1-18-33 (18) progeny plants excelled in pod length and number of seeds per pod.
