Identifikasi Jenis Dan Kelimpahan Mikroplastik Pada Sedimen Di Perairan Pantai Teluk Kabung Kota Padang Provinsi Sumatera Barat
Abstract
Plastics wastes are types of pollutant found in the Kabung Bay beach. The waste
production may increase as the increase of tourist visiting the beach. The objectives of this
research were to identify and to calculate the abundance of microplastic in the coastal waters
of Kabung Bay. This research was conducted from January 2023 to May 2023 with sampling
conducted in Kabung Bay, West Sumatra Province. This research was performed using a survey
method to measure sediments and various oceanographic parameters. Determination of station
locations was carried out by purposive sampling method with the installation of 50 cm x 50 cm
quadrants (Barasarathi et al., 2014). Abundance of microplastic was determined by using the
formula, Di = ni / N x 100% (particles 1kg of dry sediment) (Hidalgo-Ruz et al. 2012) Theree
types of microplastics found in sediments in Kabung Bay Beach Waters consisted of fragments,
film, and fiber. While the abundance of microplastics in sediments in the waters of Kabung
Bay Beach ranged from 67.78 particles/kg-71.11 particles/kg. The abundance of microplastics
based on zones in the waters of Kabung Bay Beach ranged from 56.67 particles/kg to 80.00
particles/kg. The average microplastic abundance at each station at a depth of 0-10 cm was
higher than the depth of 10-20 cm. The average microplastic abundance at a depth of 0-10 cm
was 117.78 particles/kg of dry sediment which was higher than the abundance at a depth of 10-
20 cm was (91.11 particles/kg of dry sediment).
Key words: Microplastic type, abundance, sediment depth, coastal waters
