Pola Lingkaran Pertumbuhan Pada Otolith Ikan Alu-Alu (Sphyraena Spp.) Di Perairan Sibolga Sumatera Utara
Abstract
Sphyraena spp. or known as alu-alu fish is a type of pelagic fish that inhabits the Sibolga waters. This type of fish characterized by its long body and a long upper jaw. The purpose of this study was to find out the growth pattern of the fish as reflected in the growth ring patterns in the otolith of those fishes. The fish was sampled in the Sibolga waters, once/ month, May to July 2022. The fish captured were measured and the otolith was removed, then There were 2 species of alu-alu fish, Sphyraena obtusatta and S. Putnamae. The number of fish caught was 245 (172 S. putnamae and 73 S. obtusatta). The otoliths found were relatively large > 3 mm. The otolith were removed, attached in slide glasess using Crystalbond 509 that melt in 72oC and then manually shaved using a fine grit whetstone. Among the fish captured, only 102 fishes having dark circle in the otolith. This number is less than the number of fish that do not have dark circles The number of otolith’s dark circle was relatively low, ranged from 1or 2 Data obtained in this study indicated that both spesies were able to live well in the Sibolga waters.
