ABSTRACT
This research was conducted in March 2023, at Pulau Setan, West Sumatra. The
objective of the research was to determine the types and abundance of marine
debris, as well as the types and condition of coral cover, and the relationship
between the abundance of marine debris and coral cover at Pulau Setan, West
Sumatra. The survey method was employed in this study. Data on coral cover and
the amount of marine debris were collected at four station points, with a transect
length of 50m and a width of 4m, at depths of 3m and 6m. Based on the research
findings, five types of marine debris were identified with abundance ranging from
0,005 to 0,045 units/m2 . The coral types found were Acropora branching (ACB),
Acropora submassive (ACS), Coral branching (CB), Coral encrusting (CE), Coral
foliose (CF), Coral massive (CM), Coral millepora (CME), Coral mushroom
(CMR), and Coral submassive (CS), with a percentage of live coral cover ranging
from 0,33% to 31,36%. The abundance of marine debris had an influence of 6,85%
on coral cover in the waters of Pulau Setan, West Sumat
