ABSTRACT
THE EFFECT OF USING MASKS ON THE DEGREE OF ACIDITY (pH) OF FACIAL SKIN FOR HOSPITAL HEALTH WORKERS IN PEKANBARU
By
Amelia Ramadhina Putri
COVID-19 is a respiratory infection caused by SARS-CoV-2. This virus is transmitted to humans through airway droplets, coughs and sneezes from infected people. The surgical mask is highly recommended by WHO as an effort to prevent transmission of the corona virus for health workers on duty in hospitals or other health services because it is the group that most often and longly uses personal protective equipment, one of which is masks. The skin is a special organ in the human body that is different from other organs, has a role in maintaining human health, namely physical protection, immunological protection, excretion, body temperature regulation. Low to severe work activities carried out for 1 hour using a mask cause physiological skin reactions in the form of increased respiratory frequency, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, and skin temperature covered by the mask. This research is a correlative analytical research with a cross-sectional research design. The number of samples of this study was 25 health workers who used masks taken by the concecutive sampling method. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using the Paired T Test correlation test. The results of statistical analysis of mask use on the degree of acidity (pH) showed a significant relationship (p value = 0.05) between the use of masks and the degree of acidity (pH) of facial skin.
