A Qualitative Study Of Pre-Service English Teachers’ Experiences Joining Kampus Mengajar Program
Kampus Mengajar is one of the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) programs issued by the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in early 2020 with the goal of improving the quality of university graduates so that they can compete in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 and society 5.0, as well as increasing the professionalism of students as prospective teachers in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to find out what English students experiences in the Kampus Mengajar Program. By using a qualitative reseach design with a phenomenological approach, eight students of the English study program FKIP Universitas Riau were interviewed as alumni of the Kampus Mengajar program selected using the purposive sampling technique. The data were recorded through interviews and documentation. From the data analysis, the researcher emerged five themes. There was motivation to join the Kampus Mengajar program, forms of activities, lessons learned during teaching activities, non-teaching activities, and the skills that increased during the Kampus Mengajar program. According to the findings of this study, participants had nearly identical experiences with the Kampus Mengajar program in order to increase their skills as university graduates and teachers in the future.
