Kandungan Mikroplastik Pada Kolom Air Di Sungai Siak Provinsi Riau
Abstract
Many anthropogenic activities conducted along the river banks of the Siak River produced plastic wastes and those wastes may be degraded into microplastics that are distributed in the river. A study aims to determine the type and abundance of the microplastics in the water column was conducted in Januay-March 2023. There were 3 stations, in the Karya Indah Village (S1, upstream), in the Okura Village, Pekanbaru (S2, middle area) and in the Tualang Village (S3, downstream). Samplings were conducted 3 times, once a month. In each sampling area, sample were taken from the surface, 5m and 10m depths. The water was sampled using a water sampler (30L) and then was sieved into 300 mL using a plankton net no 25. Then the sampled water was filtered using Whatman paper filter no 42, mixed with KOH 10% and kept for 14 days. The microplastics present were then identified using a binocular microscope (Olympus CX21). Results shown that there were 3 types of microplastic present, namely fibers, fragments and films. There were differences of microplastic abundance in each station as well as in each depth. The highest abundance of microplastic was found in the Station 3 (3,599.99 particles/m3) and in 5 m depth (3,533.33 particles/m3).
