Sintesis Katalis Cao-Sio2 dari Cangkang Kerang Darah dan Sabut Kelapa Untuk Produksi Biodiesel dengan Variasi Berat Katalis, Kecepatan Pengadukan, dan Rasio Mol Minyak : Metanol
CaO catalyst is a heterogeneous catalyst used in biodiesel synthesis. Modification of the CaO catalyst with porous materials such as silica (SiO2) was carried out to increase its catalytic activity. The aim of this research is to synthesis the CaO-SiO2 catalyst using the wet impregnation method with variations in the weight of silica to CaO, namely 3%, 5%, and 7% (w/w). The CaO catalyst was obtained from blood cockle shells which was calcined at 900oC for 5 hours and SiO2 from coconut fiber which was calcined at 700oC for 2 hours. The CaO-SiO2 catalyst was characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), the pyridine vapor adsorption method and FTIR, as well as alkalinity analysis. The results of XRD analysis showed the presence of lime (CaO), portlandite (Ca(OH)2), CaSiO3, Ca2SiO4, silica oxide (SiO2), and potassium oxide (K2O) minerals with the smallest crystal size and crystallinity obtained on the 5% CaO-SiO2 catalyst. XRF analysis showed that the CaO content decreases with increasing SiO2 content in the catalyst. FTIR analysis showed the presence of O-H, O-C-O, C-O, Si-O-Si, Si-O-Ca, and Ca-O groups. The results of the catalyst acidity analysis obtained that the highest acidity was found in the 5% CaO-SiO2 catalyst, which showed that the higher SiO2 content of the catalyst, the higher acidity. The results of the catalyst alkalinity analysis obtained that the highest value for the 3% CaO-SiO2 catalyst. The result catalyst was applied to the transesterification reaction for biodiesel production from Crude Palm Oil (CPO), which was optimized using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with the independent variables of catalyst weight, stirring speed and oil:methanol mole ratio. Based on the research results, the optimum biodiesel yield was obtained using a 5% CaO-SiO2 catalyst at reaction temperature of 60oC, reaction time of 90 minutes, catalyst weight of 2 g, stirring speed of 500 rpm, and oil: methanol mole ratio of 1:9 with a biodiesel yield of 95.82%. The characteristics of biodiesel produced from 3%, 5%, and 7% CaO-SiO2 catalysts have a water content, specific gravity, viscosity, and carbon residue which are in accordance with the requirements of SNI 7182-2015 except for the acid number test.
