Perubahan Fungsi Rumah Gadang Di Nagari Tuo Pariangan Kabupaten Tanah Datar
This research aims to explore the transformation of Rumah Gadang functions in Nagari Tuo Pariangan, Tanah Datar District. The study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, employing qualitative data analysis using the Miles Huberman model. The main research subjects consist of 5 individuals selected through purposive sampling, complemented by 2 additional subjects, namely the village head and the chairman of the cultural tourism group (pokdarwis) in Nagari Tuo Pariangan. The results indicate that initially, Rumah Gadang functioned normatively as a residence for clan members, a place for consensus meetings, a gathering place for extended family members, a venue for traditional ceremonies, a symbol, and also served educational functions. However, following the designation of Nagari Tuo Pariangan as a tourist village, the purpose of Rumah Gadang has shifted to become homestays or accommodations. Consequently, the functions of Rumah Gadang have shifted, where currently it is only inhabited by clan representatives, used only for large-scale meetings, no longer a gathering place for extended family members, turned into a business space, and has become an economic value for the clan members of Rumah Gadang. The factors behind this transformation into homestays include conditions where many clan members have moved away from Rumah Gadang for work or migration, and some have chosen to build houses and establish families outside Rumah Gadang. External factors contributing to this change include the recognition received by Nagari Tuo Pariangan as the most beautiful village and the award for developing tourism village, as well as the encouragement from the local cultural tourism group (pokdarwis) in Nagari Tuo Pariangan.
