Kondisi Tutupan Dan Prevalensi Penyakit Karang Di Perairan Kawasan Konservasi Pulau Pieh, Sumatera Barat
Considering the ecological and economic value of coral reef ecosystems as productive ecosystems in coastal and marine areas, it is essential to maintain their existence and quality. However, it is unfortunate that the various ecological and economic values of coral reefs are experiencing a significant decline due to degradation, damage, and coral diseases. The purpose of this research is to determine and analyze the condition of coral cover and the prevalence of coral diseases in the waters of the Pieh Island Conservation Area, West Sumatra. The method for collecting coral cover data uses UPT (Underwater Photo Transect) with a transect length of 50 meters and a frame size of 58 x 44 cm², with photographs taken at every meter at three station points. The research results show that the coral cover condition at Pandan Island is 63.04% (categorized as good), at Toran Island is 77.94% (categorized as very good), and at Air Island is 88.30% (categorized as very good). The overall prevalence of diseases in corals found at each research station is as follows: Pandan Island has a prevalence rate of 2.85%, followed by Toran Island with a prevalence rate of 1.32%, and Air Island with a prevalence rate of 0.76%. The total coral diseases found at the research stations comprise three types: White Syndrome (WS), Ulcerative White Spot (UWS), and Pink Line Syndrome (PLS). The average condition of coral cover at the research stations is 76.42%, which, according to KEPMEN LH No. 4 of 2001 on the Criteria for Coral Reef Damage, falls into the very good category. The average prevalence of coral diseases at the research stations is 1.64%.
