Korelasi Kelimpahan Fitoplankton Dengan Nilai Sebaran Total Suspended Solid (TSS) Di Perairan Tanjung Balai Kota, Kabupaten Karimun

This study was conducted in Tanjung Balai Kota Waters, Karimun Regency, in January with the aim of evaluating the correlation between phytoplankton abundance and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and analyzing TSS distribution using ESA Sentinel 2 MSI Level 2A Satellite imagery. Research methods include field surveys for data collection of water quality parameters, phytoplankton, and TSS, followed by analysis at the Marine Biology and Marine Chemistry Laboratory, Universitas Riau. The results showed the existence of 14 species of phytoplankton, with a predominance of the class Bacillariophyceae. The abundance of phytoplankton ranges from 72.22 to 94.44 ind/l, which indicates the oligotropic condition of the waters. Station 1 has the highest abundance, influenced by residential areas and low current speeds. The highest TSS distribution was recorded at stations 2 and 3, with values of 87 mg/l and 96.67 mg/l, respectively, influenced by sea transportation activities, port operations, and fishermen's activities. The high distribution of TSS in the field is consistent with the results of satellite image analysis, which shows station 3 has the highest distribution of TSS. Factors such as tides, currents, wind, decay of organic matter, and wastewater affect fluctuations in TSS values. The concentration of TSS at stations 2 and 3 exceeds seawater quality standards, indicating the importance of management actions to maintain the health of aquatic ecosystems in Tanjung City Hall, Karimun Regency. A simple linear regression test shows a correlation between phytoplankton abundance and Total Suspended Solid (TSS) distribution value, with a coefficient of determination R² = 0.5818 (medium category). These results confirm the existence of a significant positive correlation between the two variables.
