An environmentally caring attitude is an attitude and action that always seeks to prevent damage to the surrounding natural environment, and develops
efforts to repair natural damage that has occurred. This attitude needs to be formed into a good habit for the younger generation so it needs to be developed
from an early age, starting at elementary school (SD) level as a potential generation that will make changes in the future, because at that age children will more easily digest what is taught so that has a big impact on the formation of
children's attitudes and character who are disciplined and care about the
surrounding environment. This good habit can be done through environmentally friendly learning.
In research, Arofah (2021:1) explains that the attitude of caring for the environment is still low in the world of education, as students are still found throwing rubbish carelessly. Not only that, during the learning process, inorganic
waste was found scattered in the classroom and there was graffiti on the chairs
and classroom walls. This habit arises because students still have a low level of environmental awareness. This was also experienced by the MTs Al-Huda
Pekanbaru school and to increase the environmental care attitude of students, the MTs Al-Huda Pekanabaru school created a program, namely environmental picket. The environmental picket program established at the MTs Al-Huda
Pekanbaru school is an activity that encourages the creation of knowledge and awareness among the school community in an effort to form students'
environmental awareness and environmental conservation efforts. However. Based on observations made by researchers through direct observations in the field, it shows that the attitude of caring for the environment of MTs Al-Huda
Pekanbaru students is still low.
The aim of the research is to determine the environmental care attitude of
class VIII students at MTs Al-Huda Pekanbaru through the implementation of the environmental picket program and to determine the obstacles experienced in
environmental picket activities at MTs Al-Huda Pekanbaru.
To achieve this aim, research was conducted using a descriptive research design which was carried out in November-February 2024 at MTs Al-Huda
Pekanbaru. The population of this study was the entire class VIII of MTs Al-Huda
Pekanbaru, totaling 147 students and the samples in this study for distributing the questionnaire were 89 students, while for observation, the researcher took 30 of
the 89 students, each of whom was represented by 10 students from classes VIII
A, VIII B, and VIII E. The parameters in this research in determining the
environmental care attitude of class VIII students at MTs Al-Huda Pekanbaru
include preventing damage to the natural environment (environmental care, reducing the use of plastic, managing waste according to its type, reducing carbon emissions, and saving energy) and repairing natural damage that has occurred (planting trees, and using used goods). Data was obtained through distributing questionnaires, observations and interviews. Analysis of questionnaire and
observation data using Microsoft Excel and SPSS Windows Ver.29. Meanwhile, interviews were analyzed descriptively.
The results of the research show that the environmental care attitude of class VIII students at MTs Al-Huda Pekanbaru through the implementation of the environmental picket program is included in the category of caring for the environment, and the obstacles experienced in environmental picket activities at
MTs Al-Huda Pekanbaru are based on the results of interviews with the school
principal, namely supervision of students when carrying out picketing activities in the school environment which is less effective, where the only person tasked with
supervising environmental picketing activities is the teacher who teaches at the
same time as the environmental picketing activities.
