Background and Objectives: The environment is crucial as its quality directly influences human life quality and future well-being. In Indonesia, significant environmental issues include coral reef degradation, plastic waste, air pollution, and deforestation. The conversion of forests into palm oil plantations, mining activities, and forest fires are primary causes of deforestation. Environmental quality is declining due to human behaviors focused solely on daily needs without regard for environmental impacts. Rantau Baru Village faces unique challenges with its peatlands, often viewed as unproductive and partly converted into palm oil plantations. This land can be utilized by central, regional, and village governments for economic improvement, yet environmental concerns are frequently overlooked. Approximately 80% of Rantau Baru's population are fishers, but land use issues complicate their situation. Education levels in the village are predominantly elementary. Flooding exacerbates living conditions and damages local ecology. Fishing tourism is underdeveloped, river degradation continues, and local traditions reserve the Sipunjung oxbow lake for women, a practice passed down through generations. This study aims to develop an eco-socio-educational model for environmental management tailored to the fishing community in Rantau Baru Village, Pangkalan Kerinci District. The objectives of this research are; to analyze the physicochemical environment of Rantau Baru Village; to assess the biodiversity of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems in Rantau Baru Village; to evaluate the social, economic, and cultural aspects of Rantau Baru Village; to analyze environmental policies (governmental and customary) impacting Rantau Baru Village; to formulate an eco-socio-educational model for environmental management in Rantau Baru Village. Research Methods : This study employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating both qualitative and quantitative descriptive techniques. It meticulously examines whether the research subjects align with specific questions and values based on particular situations and conditions. The research methods include observation and interviews. Results and Discussion : The physicochemical conditions of the waters in Rantau Baru Village remain conducive for aquatic life, staying below water quality standards thresholds. The terrestrial physicochemical conditions are favorable, with relatively neutral to alkaline pH levels and high moisture intensity. The research area is typically wet and inundated, maintaining normal temperatures for vegetation, and the peat swamp forest remains humid due to the dense canopy blocking sunlight. There is a diverse array of fish species and genera in Rantau Baru Village, with a stable community and uncontaminated waters. Fish uniformity and dominance are high, although fish distribution is relatively low, and various fishing gears are used. The social, cultural, and economic conditions of Rantau Baru Village should be preserved. Educating the community on these aspects can help maintain the best quality of life by upholding traditional, social, and economic practices in environmental management. Developing an eco-socio-educational model is a key aspect of sustainable development, aiming to utilize the environment for natural resource conservation, local wisdom, and economic enhancement. This development involves applying local wisdom in managing available natural resources to bridge ecological, economic, and social sustainability. Sustainability studies using the RapEkososioedukasi Program show the eco-socio-educational status as follows: 52.10 in the ecological dimension, 57.48 in the economic dimension, and 59.83 in the socio-cultural dimension, indicating a fairly sustainable status. The eco-socio-educational model designed in this research is based on the premise that ecological damage is partly due to anthropocentric human behavior. Thus, ecological restoration requires educating the community. Social aspects related to ecology, such as waste disposal behavior, family sanitation, land use, low education levels, and clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS), can be improved through education. Ecological damage includes the disappearance of certain plant and animal species, widespread palm oil tree planting along riverbanks, extensive deforestation, river degradation, and forest fires. Social conditions are also problematic, with low education levels, inadequate clean water sources, poor sanitation, and unsatisfactory family hygiene practices. Improving and developing these ecological and socio-economic conditions through education is necessary. Programs and activities for each domain (ecology and socio-economics) will be designed accordingly. Developing the eco-socio-educational model involves implementing programs and activities to improve ecological, socio-cultural, and economic aspects. For example, enhancing ecotourism potential by attracting visitors for fishing and boat rentals provides new income sources for Rantau Baru residents. Several local organizations participate in environmental conservation, guided by customary laws passed down through generations. Utilizing forest resources like wood for traditional transportation (pompong) and fishing reflects the core indicators of local traditional culture aligned with Rantau Baru's local wisdom values. Culture arises within a community and cannot exist without it. Each community's culture manifests uniquely, often seen as distinct by outsiders. Emphasis on this indicator is ingrained in each individual in Rantau Baru Village, demonstrated by the use of local forest materials for transportation, reflecting the community's wise approach to natural resource management. Wise management requires adequate environmental knowledge and awareness of human impacts, ensuring the sustainability of future generations. This knowledge and awareness can be fostered through education, instilling eco-socio-educational principles. Conclusion: The research findings indicate a decline in plant species' habitats and numbers, necessitating future conservation efforts. The fish species are also in decline, posing a risk of future loss. The socio-economic and cultural conditions of Rantau Baru Village raise concerns regarding environmental management. The local government's environmental policy designates Pelalawan Strategic Area (KSK) with focuses on economic growth, socio-cultural interests, and environmental support functions, lacking a focus on natural resource utilization or high technology. The eco-socio-educational model developed in this research aims to educate the community through various programs and activities, enhancing the environment and socio-economic conditions for a better standard of living.
