Kombinasi Serbuk Buah Jabon Putih (Anthocephalus Cadamba Miq.) Dengan Air Gambut Sebagai Biosorben Pada Penjerapan Zat Warna Safranin-O
White jabon fruit powder (Anthocephalus cadamba Miq.) can be used as a biosorbent because it contains cellulose. The white jabon fruit powder was activated with NaOH and combined using peat water to increase the surface area and multiply the active sites on the biosorbent. This study aims to determine the biosorbent dose, pH, pHpzc and optimum contact time of the combination of white jabon fruit powder with peat water in the adsorption of Safranin-O. The method used was batch adsorption method. Adsorption of Safranin-O by variation of biosorbent dosage (0.05; 0.1; 0.15; 0.2 and 0.25 g), pH (2; 4; 6 and 8), pHpzc
(2; 4; 6; 8; 10 and 12) and contact time (30; 40; 50 and 60 min). The morphology and elements contained in the biosorbent before and after combination were analysed by SEM-EDS. The functional groups contained in the biosorbent before combination, after peat-water combination and after adsorption were analysed by FTIR. The biosorbents were characterised to determine iodine adsorption and methylene blue adsorption based on SNI No. 06-3730-1995. UV-Vis spectrophotometer was used to determine the absorbance of Safranin-O in the adsorption process. The adsorption kinetics model was determined based on first order pseudo kinetics, second order pseudo kinetics and intraparticle diffusion kinetics. SEM results analysed using ImageJ software showed that the pore size of the biosorbent increased from 1.144 µm to 1.679 µm, EDS results showed that the composition of C and O elements increased after the combination. FTIR results showed the presence of N-H, O-H, C-H aliphatic, C=O, C=C aromatic and C-O groups. The results showed the best biosorbent dosage at 0.2 g, pH 6, pHpzc of
6.5 and optimum contact time of 50 min with an adsorption efficiency of 96.80% and adsorption capacity of 24.1097 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics model followed second order pseudokinetics with R2=0.9995 and a rate constant value of 0.0393 g/mg min. Based on the research, it can be concluded that the combination of white jabon fruit powder with peat water has a potential of 96.80% to adsorb Safranin-O.
