ANALISIS SOSIAL EKONOMI PETANI PINANG DI KECAMATAN PINGGIR KABUPATEN BENGKALIS
This research aims to determine the socio-economic conditions and
problems of farmers in managing areca nut commodities in Pinggir District,
Bengkalis Regency. The research population is areca nut farmers in Pinggir
District, Bengkalis Regency, with a sample of Key Informants consisting of one
areca nut farmer, two village/sub-district officials and 30 farmers who own areca
plantations. The sampling method uses purposive sampling with a focus on key
sources of information to understand in detail the conditions and problems faced
by areca nut farmers in Pinggir District. Data analysis was carried out
descriptively with a quantitative approach using income analysis and R/C Ratio test
efficiency. The research results show that the socio-economic conditions of areca
nut farmers in Pinggir District are quite good, with the majority having at least a
high school education and living in habitable houses based on 4 BPS benchmarks.
The age of the respondent farmers ranges from 31-50 years or are classified as
productive age farmers, the average number of family dependents is 2 people. The
average length of farming for farmers is 8.5 years or quite experienced. The
monthly income and production costs of areca nut farming are IDR 876.053 and
IDR 277.279, with an R/C Ratio of 4,15, indicating the profitability and feasibility
of areca nut farming in Pinggir District. The main problem faced by farmers is
price instability. Efforts made by the government include price negotiations by the
PKK, the formation of farmer groups for guidance, empowerment and quality
improvement.
