SINTESIS KATALIS FOTO FENTON MnFe2O4 DENGAN METODE KERAMIK: EFEK VARIASI SUHU KALSINASI
Manganese ferrite with the chemical formula MnFe2O4 is a semiconductor compound that can be used as a catalyst in degrading waste organic compounds of dyes such as methylene blue. Manganese ferrite catalyst was synthesized by reacting solids of MnO2 and Fe3O4 using ceramic method with the variations of calcination temperature. This study aims to synthesized manganese ferrite a different calcination temperature, resulting in different characteristics and catalytic activity in degrading methylene blue. The synthesised catalysts were characterised using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy and Ultra-Violet Diffuse Reflectance (UV-DRS). The synthesised MnFe2O4 was used for methylene blue degradation using the photo-Fenton method. Characterisation results using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) showed that the calcination temperature affected the crystal structure, average crystal size and degree of crystallinity. The synthesised MnFe2O4 catalyst produces impure MnFe2O4 phase and there is still a mixture of MnO2 and Fe3O4 phases as minor components. The 500 ○C, 600 ○C, 700 ○C and 800 ○C MnFe2O4 catalysts produced average crystal sizes of 9.11 nm; 7.65 nm; 43.11 nm and 28.97 nm respectively with crystallinity levels of 22.84%, 15.66%, 65.11% and 59.36% respectively. FTIR characterisation showed the presence of O-Mn vibrations at 412-488 cm-1, O-Mn-Fe at 535-542 cm-1 and O-Fe at 679-759 cm-1. Raman characterisation showed the presence of O-Fe vibrations at 572 cm-1 and 640 cm-1. UV-DRS characterisation showed that MnFe2O4 catalysts of 500 ○C, 600 ○C, 700 ○C and 800 ○C have band gap energies of 1.51 eV, 4.22 eV, 1.40 eV and 2.70 eV, respectively. Based on the results, MnFe2O4 catalyst synthesised at 700 °C calcination temperature showed the best catalytic activity in degrading methylene blue. The methylene blue degradation efficiency reached 97.99% under the condition of 40 mg catalyst mass, 5 mL H2O2 volume and 50 ppm methylene blue concentration with 120 min contact time.
