Traffic discipline is compliance with the rules that have been set and following these rules, whether written or unwritten, when someone is driving a motorized vehicle on the road. Able to accept sanctions or punishment if they violate these regulations. The issue of public legal awareness in relation to discipline on the road is a complex issue. Awareness can be interpreted as an assessment of a legal reality with the expected law. Every society actually has legal awareness. Therefore, there is no member of society who does not want to live in an orderly manner. The problem is how far the level of legal awareness of the people concerned is, there are those who only know the law as regulations, there are also those who behave in accordance with the law.
The problem in this thesis is what is the public's legal awareness of traffic signs on toll roads and their influence on the number of traffic accidents? The second is what efforts are made by the police to enforce community law against traffic sign violations on toll roads in Riau Province. The type of research that the author uses in this legal research is included in empirical juridical (sociological) legal research.
The results of this research are based on data that the author obtained through a questionnaire from 100 respondents, it can be concluded that almost 80 percent of vehicle users who violate on the toll road are caused by not following the traffic signs on the toll road, meaning that there is legal awareness on the part of the toll road. There are still not enough vehicle users on toll roads, because there are traffic signs installed on every toll road. The second is the efforts made by the Police to enforce the law against traffic violations on toll roads in Riau Province, namely by implementing the installation of traffic signs, CCTV and speed limits or speedometers. This of course also involves electronics in practice so that E-ticketing efforts can be carried out in an effort to prevent traffic violations, especially on the Riau Province Toll Road.
