The family is a small agent of society. The family functions as an element of society with roles and responsibilities that complement each other. Function regarding the form in the family structure of love between family members. The early life of children provided by parents is the main social environment in the family. Support for children’s development so that they fit the family’s roles and functions properly. Regarding this, it is needed from the head of the family and the role of the father is very necessary because the father is a leader in the family who will take the family to the goals that the family dreams of. Dad is a good example and reference for the family. This research method uses qualitative research methods. The aim of the research is to find out the role of fathers in carrying out family functions and the activities carried out by fathers in utilizing free time in the family. This research was conducted with five research subjects according to previously determined criteria. Data collection was carried out through the stages of observation, interviews and documentation in the research. The results of the research show that fathers are responsible for their families and provide for the family’s needs and provide the family with free time. Conclusions: This role is very important for families who are useful as leaders and are attached to their identity as those responsible for their families. Fathers also need to be in the family to ensure that a family runs well and fulfills the father’s duties as a leader. The instilling of values is carried out while carrying out activities with the family which also helps the family to maintain harmony in their relationships to create a good family.
