Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Hexene-1 Dari Ethylene Proses Alphahexol Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Hexene-1 (T-101)
ABSTRACT
C6H12. Hexene-1 is a clear colourless liquid with a petroleum-like odour, soluble in most organic solvents but insoluble in water. Hexene-1 also provides tear resistance and other desirable properties to polyethylene, thus its main use as a comonomer in the production of High Density PolyEthylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density PolyEthylene (LLDPE). It can also be used as a solvent, paint thinner, chemical reaction medium, and synthesis of flavours, perfumes, dyes and resins. However, the need for hexene-1 in Indonesia is still importing from other countries such as Europe, China, and America. Therefore, the establishment of a hexene-1 plant will reduce the need for imports and increase state revenues. The hexene-1 plant was established in Mancak District, Serang Regency, Banten in 2028 with a capacity of 25,000 tonnes/year.
The production of hexene-1 is carried out by trimerisation of ethylene using chromium (III) 2-ethylhexanoate catalyst and produces the main product hexene-1 and by-product octene-1. The reaction takes place in a bubble reactor at operating conditions of 140 oC and 98 atm pressure. Hexene-1 is purified using a distillation column to produce hexene-1 product with 99% purity. The utility needs of the hexene-1 plant are provided in the form of steam supply units, water supply units, and electricity supply units. The equipment in the plant is equipped with safety instruments and process control instruments to ensure the production process runs well.
The hexene-1 plant has a fixed capital investment of Rp. 1,274,232,871,682, a working capital investment of Rp. 224,864,624,415 and a total production cost of Rp. 1,344,018,223,958. The products produced are sold with a revenue of Rp. 2,464,119,249,475.15 per year. Profitability analysis shows a net present value (NPV) of Rp. 314,383,739,228.06 with a discounted internal rate of return (IRR) of 18.36%, break-even point (BEP) at 37.192% production capacity, and payback period (PBP) of 2.83 years. Based on these results, the design of the hexene-1 plant from ethyelene is considered feasible and a profitable investment.
