ABSTRACT
This research aims to determine the effect of the human development index and the unemployment rate on the poverty rate in the Meranti Islands Regency, which is sourced from the Riau Province Central Statistics Agency as well as journals and literature related to this research. The data analysis method used in this research is quantitative descriptive analysis method. The results of the Human Development Index (HDI) research have a significant and negative effect on the poverty rate in the Meranti Islands Regency for the 2010-2023 period. This shows that an increase in the quality of human resources reflected in the HDI contributes to an increase in community productivity and income thereby reducing the poverty rate in the Meranti Islands Regency. The unemployment rate has no significant effect on the poverty rate in the Meranti Islands Regency. Although theory states that the unemployment rate should affect the poverty rate, this study shows that a decrease in unemployment does not directly reduce poverty in the Meranti Islands Regency.
