Waktu Aplikasi Herbisida Pra Tumbuh Dan Penyiangan Gulma Terhadap Pertumbuhan Dan Produksi Jagung Manis (Zea Mays Saccharata Sturt)
ABSTRACT
Corn is the third most important food crop after rice and wheat in Indonesia. The decrease in corn production in Riau Province is caused by several factors, one of which is the presence of weeds. The purpose of this study was to determine the interaction of pre-emergence herbicide application timing and weed weeding, the combination of pre-emergence herbicide application tim ing and weed weeding, as well as the single effect of pre-emergence herbicide application timing and weed weeding on the growth and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt). This research was a factorial experiment arranged using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of 2 factors, namely herbicide application timing and weed weeding. Factor I: Weed weeding consisting of 3 levels, namely: no weeding, weeding at 20 Days After Planting (DAP), weeding at 40 DAP. Factor II: Pre-emergence herbicide application timing consisting of 3 levels, namely: no application, application at 3 DAP, and application at 6 DAP. The results showed that there was an interaction between pre-emergence herbicide application timing and weed weeding on plant height and sweet corn yield per plot, and that the single factors of herbicide application timing and weed weeding significantly affected the stem diameter of sweet corn. The combination of herbicide application at 3 DAP and weed weeding at 40 days was able to enhance plant growth during the vegetative phase of sweet corn, while herbicide application at 6 DAP and weed weeding at 40 days improved plant growth during the generative phase of sweet corn.
