Sebaran Bahan Organik Pada Sedimen Di Muara Sungai Bukit Batu Kabupaten Bengkalis, Provinsi Riau
The Bukit Batu River estuary in Bengkalis Regency is a wood cutting litter disposal area, a transportation route for timber-carrying barges and surrounding human activities, which has the potential to increase the content of organic matter in sediments. This research aims to determine the content, type of sediment fraction, distribution of organic matter in sediments and the relationship between the two. Samples were taken from the inner and outer estuary in the Bengkalis Strait. The research was conducted in January 2025. Analysis of organic matter was carried out using the method of ignition, while the sediment fraction was analyzed using sieving and pipette methods. The results of the analysis obtained in the estuary had organic matter content ranging from 11,68-14,12% with sediment types consisting of sandy mud and muddy sand. Meanwhile, outside the estuary has an organic matter content of 1,88-4,93% with sediment types consisting of muddy sand, sand and gravelly sand. The distribution of organic matter tends to be low in coarse fraction sediments such as sand and gravelly sand which have larger sediment grain sizes. These sediment characteristics can affect variations in organic matter content, because the amount of organic matter trapped or deposited in the sediment is highly dependent on the physical properties of the sediment.
