Struktur Ginjal Ikan Baung Hemibagrus Nemurus (Valenciennes, 1840) Dari Perairan Sungai Siak Kota Pekanbaru
The Siak River experienced lead (Pb) heavy metal pollution in January 2024 ranging from 0.072 - 0.113 mg/L. Very high Pb levels affect the structure of fish organs, especially the kidneys. This study aims to determine the Pb levels in the waters of the Siak River and changes in the macroscopic and microscopic structure of the kidney organs of the catfish Hemibagrus nemurus (Valenciennes, 1840). Fish and river water samples were taken from location 1 (Limah Puluh District) and location 2 (Rumbai Pesisir District). Pb levels were measured using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method. Histological preparations of the kidneys were made using the paraffin method and HE staining. The Pb levels in river water were 0.105 mg/L (location 1) and 0.128 mg/L (location 2). The Pb levels in the Siak River have exceeded the standard limit for Pb in waters. The macroscopic structure of the kidneys in the 2 locations was blackish red. Kidney tissue damage at 2 locations in the glomerulus, proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henle, distal convoluted tubule experienced parenchymal degeneration, hydropic degeneration, fatty degeneration, necrosis and congestion. The results of the calculation of the scoring value of fatty degeneration and necrosis damage have a value of 2 which is categorized as moderate damage. High Pb levels in the waters of the Siak River will damage the condition of kidney tissue in catfish.
Key findings: Hemibagrus nemurus, Kidney organ, Pb, Siak River
