Pengolahan Air Gambut Dengan Teknologi Biosand Filter Dual Media
Peat water is water that available on surface or ground water, it has been affected by the characteristic of the peat. Peat water are often found at Pekanbaru City, with contain brownish red to blackish color (124-850 PtCo), high organic content (138-1560 mg/l KMnO4), high turbidity (25.1-36.5 NTU), and so acid characters (pH 3.7-5.3). These conditions make peat water must be treated before it will be consumed. The simple treatment for peat water biosand filter with dual media of pumice and quartz sand. The purpose of this research is to determine the arrangment of layers and the optimum value of effective thicknes of filtering media. Parameter tested are pH, color, turbidity, and organic contain (KmnO4). Statistical analysis used Two Ways Varian Analysis (Anova). This result indicated that the best arrangement of filtering media layers are pumice at the top and quartz sand underneath it and for the thickness of the filtering media, the best thickness to used is 40 cm of pumice thickness and 20 cm of quartz sand thickness. Dual media biosand filter can generate maximum efficiency in raising pH value of 36,54%, lowering peat water solution level of 88,41 %, lowering peat water color value of 92 ,33 % and also lowering organic content of 93,24 %.
