The present research was conducted from October, 2012 until November 2012 in Rimba Sekampung Village, Dumai. It seeks to analyze the noise frequency caused by a swiftlet breeding in Rimba Sekampung Village, Dumai and to analyze the community perception of the noise caused by the swiftlet breedings in the village. The instruments used in the research were a sound level meter (SLM), a meter, and a digital camera. The instruments used to measure the community perception were questionnaire to see the physiological and psychological disturbances. The results show that the noises in the radius of 30 and 60 meters have exceeded the noise threshold ; while in a 90-meter radius, the noises have approached the noise threshold value in the urban residential area, namely 55 dB.
The community perception of the noises caused by the swiftlet breeding in Rimba Sekampung Village is bad. Such a perception has raised physiological disturbances like an uncomfortable feeling, a headache, an increased blood pressure and a hearing disturbance. In addition, the noises have also raised psychological disturbances like emotional disturbances, stress, distraction and rest disturbance.
