Decreased range of motion (ROM) is a physiological process in elderly people. The decreased ROM especially of the lower extremities can lead to balance impairment and increase the risk of fall in elderly. The objective of this study was to compare active ROM of the hip, knee and ankle between fallers and non fallers in elderly at Khusnul Khotimah Nursing Home in Riau Province. This was an analytical observational study with cross-sectional design involving 30 subjects aged 60 years and older by using total sampling method. The data was analyzed by using unpaired t test and Mann-Whitney test. The result showed that in fallers group, there was a significantly decreased ROM of the right hip flexion (p=0.024), right (p=0.003) and left (p=0.023) extension, left abduction (p=0.036) right (p=0.002) and left (p=0.006) adduction, right (p=0.001) and left (p=0.004) knee extension, right (p=0.005) and left (p=0.013) ankle inversion as compared to non fallers group. In conclusion, this study found that in fallers group, there was a significantly decreased ROM of the right hip flexion, right and left extension, left abduction, right and left adduction, right and left knee extension, right and left ankle inversion as compared to non fallers in elderly at Khusnul Khotimah Nursing Home in Riau Province.
