Karakteristik Pantai Peneluran, Sebaran Sarang Dan Pergerakan Penyu Hijau (Chelonia Mydas) Ke Pantai Tempat Peneluran Di Chagar Hutang Pulau Redang Terengganu Malaysia
Green turtles (C. mydas) are one of the protected and endangered species of sea reptiles. This research was carried out in March-April 2018 in Chagar Hutang Redang Island Terengganu Malaysia. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of nesting beach, nests distribution and movements of green turtles (C. mydas) to the beach where they lay in the coastal area. The method used in this research is survey method. There are 3 observation stations, station 1 located in a location that has little vegetation and there is a tide pool around the station. Station 2 is located in a dense vegetation and has a gentle slope category. While station 3 is located in an area near the less and the has less dense vegetation. The slope of the beach at each station were measured. Characteristics of nesting beaches include the slope, width, flora and fauna, the type of substrate, air temperature and sea water temperature. The results of the study showed that the slope of these coast ranged from 3.65 to 5.35˚ classified as sloping. The width of the beaches were quite wide, ranged 26.47-36.46 meters. The common vegetation consist includes ketapang, sea pandanus and babakoan. While the common fauna includes ghost crab, monitor lizards, fire ants, hermit crabs, and various types of corals. The type of substrate was gravel sand with air temperature in the range of 27-29ºC, while the sea water temperature was in the range of 28-29ºC. The distribution of green turtle nests (C. mydas) was assessed using the belt transect method. Observation of movement patterns was carried out by monitoring the rising turtles to lay eggs along the coast at night. Routine observations was carried out every day 1 hour at night from 20:00 to 06:00. The observation is to look at the pattern of turtle movements towards the location of the turtle. Sea turtle nests was found at all stations along this coast. The pattern of movement and the time needed for green turtles (C.mydas) to rise in nesting beaches varies greatly, and not all turtles that ride ashore will lay eggs.
