Batam Central Business District Dengan Pendekatan Prinsip Desain The Garden City

ABSTRACT

Batam City is located next to Singapore, which is one of the largest economic regions in Asia. With its location in the strategic trade, economic, and international industrial area, Batam City is a very potential area to be developed. The Development of a new area to become a business center is one of the efforts to increase this potential. Batam Central Business District is a multifunctional area with residential and recreational facilities as its support and is located in Batam City District (Batam Center). The design principles of the City Park theory can be applied to the design of the area. The principles of the Garden City can be one of the foundations in developing Batam City's potential. The theory that was initiated by Ebenezer Howard is a development theory that is environmentally and socially oriented and supports the sustainability of a city, where a city is not only oriented towards industrial development, but also leads to urban development. This can support the sustainability of the city which increases the potential of the city as a center for environmental and social friendly improvement. Existing facilities in the Batam Central Business District are divided into several zones, namely: commercial zones, residential zones, office zones, and recreation zones, with additional public spaces into per design. Besides, by incorporating the design principles of the City Park, it can be used to help activities and invite "forward and orderly", and keep adjusting to the environment and social, to attract the attention of investors and try to invest and build companies in the city of Batam.
