Makna Badik Bagi Masyarakat Suku Bugis ( Studi Di Kelurahan Pulau Kijang, Kecamatan Reteh, Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir )

Badik is a traditional weopon of Suku Bugis. Bugis society belive that bringing Badik can bring authority and aid in an extremely urgent situation.When wanting to do a long distance journey, men in Suku Bugis who believe the power of Badik unwilling to leave their Badik, as much as possible Badik will be brought to accompany them. In this case, it would be a controversy between the law of Indonesia with the public’s belief in their costomary tradition including the traditional weapons of Suku Bugis Badik of kawali. Both have an equally strong position in the society. It is very clear that the Law of Indonesia prohibits individuals from carrying sharp weapons, but for Bugis society Badik is a protector. The theory used is the theory of symbolic interactionism according to George Herbrt Mead. Data analysis was done descriptiveliy by using qualitative approach, the data cellecting technique in this research is purposive where the respondent is 7 people consisting of the elderly and common society who have Badik thet age is over 30 years old. From the research results in the field, it is known that social function of Badik for Suku Bugis society in Pulau Kijang, Kecamatan Reteh, Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir, which is as Bugis mele identity to maintain self-esteem (siri). The power of Badik comes from the old iron which has long been believe to have magical powers that can affecty the condition, the state of the owner. The belief of Suku Bugis for Badik persists to this day, however the punlic’s understanding of the symbols in Badik has diminished.
