The purpose of this research, therefore, is to identify the types of residential pests and pesticides used for control. Furthermore, biotic, physical and social environmental factors affiliated with the existence of the pests, as well as the behavior of residentswere evaluated to design models of pesticide use managementwhich ensure safety and friendlinessto the environment. This was a descriptive research, wherethe households in Pekanbaru City served as the target population, encompassing Tenayan Raya, Sail, and Pekanbaru Kota Sub-districts.Therefore, each was divided into three categories, which include clean, medium and dirty. In addition, purposive and multistage sampling technique was used for selection. The results showed mosquitoes and cockroaches as the most common types of pests, alongside flies, mice, ants, and termites; however mosquitoes were identified as the most disturbing species. Furthermore, the pesticides used were mainly formulatedas aerosol, which is most widely applied, alongside liquid, solid and lotion. Moreover, the active ingredients oftenapplied include transfluthrin, diethyltoluamide and imiprothrin, classified in the category of toxicity III (quite dangerous). The physical and biological factors found to influence the existence of pests include dirty environments, whilesocial factors comprise of community activities that are not supportive of clean and well-organized domestic surroundings. In addition, the behavior of the Pekanbaru City people towards inappropriate and improper use of household pesticides was evaluated for over 5 years.
