The filter used in the recirculation system acts as a medium for bacteria to stic, one of which is the bioball. Bioball is a breeding ground for various bacteria which needed to process the toxins in water. The purpose of this study was to know the effect of bioball addition on the type and density of bacteria found in the recirculation system of silver pompano fish and to find the best number of bioballs used in the recirculation system of silver pompano fish. The containers used for rearing of silver pompano fish are round buckets with a diameter of 60 cm, a height of 45 cm, a volume of 100 L as many as 15 pieces with a recirculation system. Filter rack size 50 cm x 14 cm x 14 cm with the addition of a bioball, the stocking density used is 20 ind/80 L of water. The method used in this study was an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) of a factor of five levels of treatment, three replications to obtain 15 experimental unit. The treatment applied was the addition of different bioballs to the recirculation system by giving starter bacteria, the fishes were reared with different bioball (P0 = control), (P1 = 35 bioballs), (P2 = 45 bioballs), (P3 = 55 bioballs), and (P4 = 65 bioballs). The results shown that the density of bacteria with different amounts of bioball increased at each observation, where the highest density was at P3 357.34x107 CFU/ml and the lowest was at P4 173.34X107 CFU/ml. There were 7 bacterial isolates from the genus Pseudomonas, Flavobacteerium, Achromobacter, Vibrio, Aeromonas, Acinetobacter and Neisseria. The water quality during the study was pH 7,2-7,8, DO 5,8-6,9 mg /L, NH3 0,0177- 0,0290mg /L and temperature 28-29,3 ºC.
