Sensors that are widely used in industry are position and displacement
sensors because position sensors have high resistance to extreme ambient
temperatures and have high excitation and precession. The position sensor
designed and used in this study is the Linear Variable Differential Transformers
(LVDT) sensor. The advantages of the LVDT sensor are in its operation, friction
free, absolute output, high sensitivity, and a high level of resistance and linearity.
This research is based on active rectifier and synchronization switch using a PCI
6521 card with a data acquisition speed of 1.25 MSPS and 2.8 MSPS for signal
output. The research stages consisted of (i) making the LVDT sensor holder,
simulating electronic circuits with LTSpice, making measurement system software
using LabVIEW software and testing the synchronization and linearity of the LVDT
sensors to increase the sensitivity of the device.
The output voltage signal before synchronization (phase 0) results in an
incorrect rectifier on the zero-cross line of the secondary signal, resulting in a
reduction in the output voltage. The output of the rectifier is shown to increase after
synchronization which causes the signal to cross the zero line. The linearity test in
the form of output voltage as a function of iron core displacement with a range of
20 mm and a phase shift at an amplitude of 1 V produces the most optimum
sensitivity right at the zero-cross point at a frequency of 5 kHz and a phase angle
of -10 of 35.51 mV/mm. The optimum conditions that meet the zero-cross at an
amplitude of 2 V are produced by a frequency of 6 kHz and 7 kHz, where each
frequency produces the highest sensitivity of 67.55 mV/mm in the -5 and
63.37 mV/mm phases, respectively. Measuring the output voltage at amplitude of 3
V for each frequency produces an intersection or crossover right at the zero-cross
point. This shows that each frequency produces the correct and optimum
rectification. The phase shift that produces the highest sensitivity for the
measurement frequency of 5 kHz is -5, while for the 6 kHz and 7 kHz frequencies
it is -10, respectively. The greatest sensitivity at 5 kHz, 6 kHz and 7 kHz is 107.96
mV/mm, 103.7 mV/mm and 98.45 mV/mm, respectively. Based on the results
obtained, there is an increase in sensitivity by using a synchronization switch. The
result of uncertainty tests of each amplitude and frequency of measurement resulted
in the data transaction on a low order of 0.001.
