Peran United Nations High Commission For Refugees (Unhcr) Dalam Menangani Pengungsi Afghanistan Di Pekanbaru Tahun 2018

This thesis discusses the role of UNHCR in dealing with Afghan refugees
in Pekanbaru 2018. A phenomenon that is often In Pekanbaru is the large number
of foreigners who have lived and lived for quiet a long time in Indonesia,
especially Pekanbaru. Refugees living in Pekanbaru do not only come from one
country, but also from several countries such as Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan, Iraq,
Iran, Bangladesh and Myanmar. These refugees come to Indonesia as a transit
country and expect to get a decent life in a third country, considering that they
come from an unsafe country and frequent conflicts.
The research method used in this thesis is the library research method
from research journals, books and websites related to this research. This study
uses a historical approach with a qualitative descriptive analysis model, the type
of research is literature study. Data collection methods were through
documentary analysis and conducting interviews with resource persons. The
theory used in this thesis is the Role Theory by Stephen G. Walker
UNHCR an international organization that works with all refugees in the
world to get a decent and safe life. Refugees from conflict countries aer under the
protection of the UNHCR or the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,
whisch is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and comparises 147 countries.
The focus of this research is the handling of refugees originating from
Afghanistan. Afghanistan has been experiencing difficult times for long time, wars
and ethnic conflicts have occurres and the presence of the taliban has
exacerbated conditions in Afghanistan so that many afghans have fled the country
to seek refuge.
