The role of transportation for the community has had a tremendous impact, especially in everyday life. The transportation sector, especially land transportation, freeways plays a major role in determining the pace of the economy and the level of community prosperity. Along with these things, toll roads were built both inside and outside the city. Given the function of toll roads, namely providing services in the form of smooth vehicles without any significant obstacles, it is also necessary to pay attention to road safety issues because traffic accidents are a potential problem that grows along with the current rapid pace of development.
The phenomenon of traffic accidents is also a major problem on toll roads. However, the Permai Toll Road Operation and Maintenance (OPJT) noted that there had been 9 traffic accidents in September - October 2020 on the freeway, ranging from serious to minor accidents. The condition of the toll road with the facilities available on the toll road is able to support the movement of vehicles with a high average speed and in a fast travel time can be considered as an adjustment solution for increasing mobility, but in reality these conditions cause the driver to drive the vehicle with relatively high speed without paying attention to traffic signs and the surrounding conditions so that it has the potential to cause traffic accidents. The majority of straight lanes also have the potential to reduce the driver's alertness psychologically. Conditions that fit he called affect the level of concentration while driving.
Based on the statistical results obtained, 70% of the accidents that occurred were caused by human error and 30% came from geographical factors and road design. As for in this case the safety culture owned by the driver can participate in shaping safety driving. Based on these explanations and problems, the researchers analyzed the influence of safety culture on driver’s safety driving on the Permai toll road so that it can explain factors or several dimensions of safety culture that can affect safe driving behavior so that prevention can be done in reducing the number of accidents. in the following years.
This study aims to determine the relationship between safety culture and safety driving among drivers on Pekanbaru Dumai toll road. The subjects of this study were 60 drivers who used the Pekanbaru Dumai toll road. Researchers used a questionnaire on safety culture and safety driving.
The results of this study indicate a very significant positive relationship between safety culture and safe driving behavior, with r = 0.732 p < 0.01, r2 = 0.536 so it can be concluded that safety culture is one of the factors safety driving among drivers on Pekanbaru Dumai Toll road with a large effect of 53.6%, although only one dimension that is significantly related to safety driving is daily activities and behaviors that support safety, with the percentage value is 27.16%.
