Pengaruh Altruisme Dan Self Management Terhadap Kompetensi Sosial Kepala SMP Swasta Kota Pekanbaru
School principals’ social competency is basically a performance one of
five competencies a must-have for school principals in performing their duties as
a leader at an education unit. The quality of school principals’ social competency
will determine the quality of education result, because the school principals are
the most in direct contact with all of the school's stakeholders, even internal or
external in the process of education or learning in the school education
institutions. The high and low of school principals’ social competency in an
institution can be influenced by many factors. Among these factors are the
altruism factor and self management factor. This study aims to explain the
influence of altruism and self management partially and simultaneously on the
social competency of school principals in Private Junior High School Pekanbaru.
This research is quantitative research with an explanatory design. The
data collection technique used a questionnaire. The study population was 101
school principals, the sample retrieval technique used cluster sampling with the
sample number of 81 selected school principal according to random purposive
sampling. Grain validity test is done by Product Moment correlation technique
from Pearson. While the reliability test used Cronbach's formula coefficient
alpha. The analysis technique used simple linear regression and multiple linear
regression.
After conducting descriptive testing of data, testing hypotheses, looking for
the influence between altruism and self-management variables on the principal's
social competence, the results showed that there was a positive and significant
influence between altruism on the principal's social competence as indicated by
the t-test results, namely t count > t table ( 2.318 > 1.990) at a significance level of
5% with a determinant coefficient of 0.159, which means that the principal's
social competence is influenced by altruism by 15.9%, besides that there is a
positive and significant influence between self-management on social competence
as shown t count > t table (4,198 >1.990) at a significance level of 5%, with a
determinant coefficient of 0.267, which means that the principal's social
competence is influenced by self-management by 26.7%. Likewise, there is a
positive and significant influence jointly between altruism and self-management
on the principal's social competence as indicated by the F test results, namely the
value of F count > F table (17.848 > 3.11) at a significance level of 5%. While the
coefficient of determination is 0.314, which means 31.4%. So, from this study it
can be concluded that the better the altruism and self-management of the
principal, the better the social competence of the principal.
Good and high altruism behavior will provide a strong encouragement for
the principal to increase social competence so as to produce maximum
performance in meeting 1 of 5 standards required for principals. Likewise, if the
xv
behavior of low altruism will have an impact on the low social competence of the
principal so that the work achieved is less than optimal.
High self-management will provide a strong impetus for the principal to
improve his social competence so as to produce maximum performance while low
self-management will have an impact on the school principal's low social
competence.
Reflecting on the results of the study and the conclusions of this study, it is
recommended to the principal to always cultivate altruistic behavior in his daily
life both in the school environment and in the community where he lives, because
altruism can be a positive driver of behavior for the principal. Principals and
related parties with school institution managers are expected to be able to
encourage the principal's self-management ability. Likewise, principals and
parties related to school institution managers are expected to be able to
encourage improving the ability of school principals' social competence which
includes collaborating with other parties for the benefit of the school/madrasah,
participating in social activities, having social sensitivity towards other people or
groups in the end. have implications and have an impact on the success of the
principal in leading his school.
