Pengaruh Variasi Beating Revolutions Terhadap Nilai Bulk, Freeness, Tensile Strength, Dan Tear Strength Pada Bubur Pulp Dan Lembaran Pulp Kering
ABSTRACT
The company of PT. RAPP produces pulp in two types namely pulp slurry
and dry pulp sheet based on the consistency of the pulp. Both products will be
distribute to consumers of paper companies. This final project was conducted to
determine the economic level between pulp slurry and dry pulp sheet based on
product quality. This can be seen by looking at the characteristics of these fibers,
such as bulk, freeness, tensile strength, and tear strength. They can be affected by
the beating process. Beating/ refining will change the physical properties of the
fiber as raw material for paper and the revolution value can be variation in order
to obtain a ratio between pulp slurry and dry pulp sheet. The test in the form of
hand sheet pulp with 60 gsm was varied in five different beatings, namely 0, 500,
1.000, 2.000, and 3.000 revolutions. Analyzes were carried out according to
TAPPI standards. Beating with a revolution of 0 to 3.000 increases the tensile
strength and tear strength values and reduces bulk and freeness. In general, it is
the fiber bonding of the fibrillation that affects the test parameters. In addition to
the bulk parameters, the results of the analysis obtained that the freeness, tensile
strength, and tear strength of the pulp slurry were slightly higher than that of dry
pulp sheets with the percentages respectively, namely 0 - 3%, 0 - 3%, 0 - 19%,
and 2 - 13%. So that, Riau Pulp guarantees the quality between the pulp slurry
and the dry pulp sheet because the Pulp Dryer process does not have a major
effect on the quality of the pulp.
Key words: beating revolutions, bulk, freeness, tensile strength, tear strength
