Model Pengelolaan Konservasi Sungai Subayang Berbasis Kearifan Lokal Dengan Bioindikator Ikan Belida (Chitala Sp)

The Subayang River is an ecosystem in which there is an interaction between
ecological factors, social factors, and economic factors. The ecological factors of
the Subayang River consist of the physics and chemistry of the waters as well as
the life of the organism in it, including the knifefish (Chitala sp) which is a
protected fish. Along the Subayang River, there are 16 villages whose people
interact with the river in their daily activities. The Subayang River ecosystem is
also a source of the local community's economy. Natural landscapes that are rich in
resources have become a source of economy for the community, either directly or
indirectly. In the utilization of resources, the people who inhabit the Subayang
River ecosystem have local wisdom and do not forbid to respect the environment,
including the existence of knifefish. This study aims to design a management model
for the Subayang River conservation based on local wisdom using knifefish as
bioindicators. Data on water quality, knifefish populations, local wisdom values,
and environmental economic values were taken directly using the survey method.
To determine water quality, temperature, DO, turbidity, BOD, and COD were
measured from river water. Knifefish population is determined based on community
catches, both free catches and harvested catches. The value of local wisdom is
analyzed based on the results of interviews to determine behavior and abstinence
that affect the environment. Economic value is calculated using environmental
economic valuation. Analysis of the influence of local wisdom on water quality and
belida population is carried out through dynamic system modeling. The results
showed that the parameter values of temperature, DO, turbidity, BOD, and COD
still showed that the water quality of the Subayang River was in the good category.
Analysis of the catch of knifefish in the last 5 years shows a trend in the number of
populations. Analysis of community local wisdom that has a positive value to the
environment in the form of the tradition of lubuk larangan (deep part of the river
that is prohibited from fishing activities) and abstinence in the use of environmental
resources. Environmental valuation calculations show a valuation value of close to
3 trillion rupiah, both based on use value and intrinsic value. Modeling with a
dynamic system shows that the existence of lubuk larangan has an influence on the
tendency of decreasing and increasing the population of knifefish in the Subayang
River. The results of this study conclude that management model of Subayang River
based on local wisdom using knifefish as bioindicators can be done by increasing
the number of lubuk larangan and strengthening traditional institutions for the
sustainability of lubuk larangan.
