ABSTRACT
Industrial plantation forest development is one of the government policies to overcome the scarcity of forest product industry raw materials, especially pulp and paper materials. The conditions in the Acacia crassicarpa nursery, especially in estate Pelalawan PT. RAPP, pest attacks were found, one of the pests in Thrips sp. The control efforts which are widely used for thrips is to use chemical pesticides and there is need other alternatives besides using chemical pesticides. One of the plants that has the potential to be used as organic insecticide is Swietenia mahagoni. The objectives of this study are to determine the effect of Swietenia mahagoni seed extract in controlling Thrips sp. and to determine the best concentration of Swietenia mahagoni seed extract in controlling Thrips sp. in Acacia crassicarpa nursery. Randomized completely design (RCD) was used in this study with 4 treatments and 4 replications concentration level of organic pesticide. P1: Swietenia mahagoni seed extract concentration 10 g/l, P2: Swietenia mahagoni seed extract concentration 20 g/l, P3: Swietenia mahagoni seed extract concentration 30 G/L, P4: Swietenia mahagoni seed extract concentration 40 g/l. The result showed that Swietenia mahagoni seed extract had an effect on controlling thrips in Acacia crassicarpa nursery. The best concentration of Swietenia mahagoni seed extract in controlling Thrips sp. was 40 g/l which causes the earlies test insect death time (0.62 hour or 37.2 minutes), 50% lethal time (LT50) of Thrips sp. was fastest (2 hours) and caused total mortality of 100%.
